September 2014 Newsletter
Happy New Year! Biblically, the first day of every lunar month is an appointed time of the Lord. It is when the moon begins its 28 day cycle from total darkness to full spendor and then waning back to dark again. The name given to the day is "Rosh Chodesh", which translates literally as "Head of the month". The Torah details its observance by the blowing of two silver trumpets (Numbers 10:2,10).But one specific Rosh Chodesh, on the seventh month of the Hebrew calenday, Tishri, is chief among them all. This day is a special Sabbath of the blowing of the shofar known as Yom T'ruah - "The Day of Alarm", commonly known as the Feast of Trumpets. It is a call to repentance and the beginning of Yamim Nora'im - "the Days of Awe", leading up to the penultimate day of appointment, Yom Kippur - the Day of Atonement, which comes just ten days later. Although the month of Nisan is the first month of the year in the Hebrew calendar, the seventh month, Tishri marks the beginning of the civil and agricultural year. Additionally, because the very first phrase within the Bible, "Bereshit" - "in the beginning", when rearranged spells out "Aleph B'Tishri" - "the first of Tishri", the rabbis hold that this is when God performed His work of creation. For these reasons, Yom T'ruah has also been given the name Rosh HaShanah, commonly called the Jewish New Year. Rosh HaShanah means "Head of the Year". It is a time of great rejoicing as well as a holy occasion. At Seed of Abraham, our Rosh HaShanah service routinely includes the blowing of shofars, joyous music, dance and much celebration. Indeed, believers in Yeshua have great reason to celebrate, for we know that Yom T'ruah is also prophetic of the end-time ingathering of God's people (Isaiah 27:13, Matthew 24:31) as we eagerly look forward to the Lord's return to the sound of the shofar. (1 Thessalonians 4:16) Rosh HaShanah begins this Wednesday evening, September 24th. We at Seed of Abraham invite you to join us this Wednesday at 7:00 PM as we enter into a time of rejoicing, remembrance, revelation and celebration. If you have one, bring your shofar and make a joyful noise unto the Lord! Please be sure to join us for some apples and honey and other sweet treats as we share the traditional greeting of "L'Shanah Tovah!" - "To a good year!" Great News! With the installation of our new air-conditioning system this past summer, our weekly services have been wonderfully comfortable, despite scorching temperatures outside. Also, our Messianic Prophetic Outreach, in which we have been publicly sharing the many prophecies of Yeshua during the weekly fairs just outside our doors, has been a tremendous success. Come join us as we sing, dance and engage curious passers-by in genial conversation. You can be with us as we share Messiah with a hurting world. We meet in our small parking lot, adjacent to the building every Sunday at 12 noon. We hope to see you there! Inside Update: Please remember, our large fellowship room (past
the downstairs sanctuary) is now open for all to enjoy! Stop
by after the weekly Saturday morning service to enjoy a
free pastry and a cup of coffee. There are plenty of tables and
chairs where you can sit and relax. More Great News! All of Rabbi Steve's weekly video teachings, past and present, are now available for viewing 24/7 on our Seed of Abraham channel on Vimeo! CLICK HERE or Visit www.vimeo.com/seedofabraham to go there.
